Ryan Lavarnway latest Sea Dog player to shine in AFL

In a game in which Peoria couldn't lose, Ryan Lavarnway at least attempted to provide an edge.

The Red Sox catching prospect hit a three-run homer in the third inning and finished 2-for-4 as his visiting Peoria Javelinas settled for a 4-4, 11-inning tie with the Peoria Saguaros on Thursday afternoon.

"You're always trying for that victory," Lavarnway said. "Ties aren't something we're used to, but we played a good game."

A tie isn't uncommon in the Arizona Fall League, which stipulates knotted games be called after 11 innings. The clutch homer from Lavarnway also wasn't uncommon in 2010 -- the catcher had 22 longballs and 102 RBIs in the regular season between two Minor League levels. His go-ahead shot gave the Javs a 4-1 edge, but Ben Revere (Twins) scored on a fielding error by center fielder Jay Austin (Astros) in the eighth to tie it up for the Sags.
