Sea Dogs Hot Stove Taking Shape: Kalish, Rogers to Attend

The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will host their annual Hot Stove Dinner and Silent Auction, presented by Hannaford Supermarkets, on Friday, January 21st at 5:30 PM at the Marriott Hotel at Sable Oaks in South Portland. Red Sox outfielder and former Portland Sea Dog Ryan Kalish along with Maine native and Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Mark Rogers will be the featured guests at the dinner. Additional guests will be announced. All proceeds from the dinner and silent auction will benefit the Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program.

Tickets for the event will go on sale on Saturday, November 6th at 9:00 AM in person at the Hadlock Field Ticket Office. Tickets can be ordered by phone (207-879-9500) or online at www.seadogs.com starting at 12:00 noon. Only 300 tickets are available for this event. Individual tickets are $50.00 each; reserved tables of ten are also available for $500.00. Everyone who attends will receive a signed 8 X 10 photo of Ryan Kalish and Mark Rogers.

Highlighting the auction is the opportunity to watch three innings of a Red Sox game from inside the Green Monster. Additionally, the lucky bidder will receive four grandstand tickets and will be able to watch batting practice from the warning track at Fenway Park. This once in a lifetime opportunity was donated by the Boston Red Sox.

Ryan Kalish, the Red Sox 2009 Minor League Offensive Player of the Year, opened the 2010 season with the Portland Sea Dogs. Kalish appeared in 44 games for the Sea Dogs hitting .297 (44-for-150) with eight home runs, 29 RBI, and 13 stolen bases earning a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket on June 1st. After just 37 games with the PawSox, hitting. 294 (42-for-143), he was summoned to Boston. Kalish made his Major League debut on July 31st, going 2-for-4 against the Detroit Tigers. The 22 year-old Kalish appeared in 53 games for the Red Sox batting .252 (41-for-163) with four home runs, 24 RBI, and 10 stolen bases. He became the first Red Sox rookie since Bob Zupcic in 1992 to hit two grand slams in a season. Kalish was selected by the Red Sox in ninth round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

Orrs Island, Maine native, Mark Rogers, was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft, the highest ever for a Maine born player. On September 10, 2010, Rogers, made his Major League debut with the Brewers, tossing one inning of perfect relief against the Chicago Cubs and recording his first Major League strikeout. Rogers would appear in four Major League games, including two starts, recording a 1.80 ERA and 11 strikeouts with a 0-0 record. In 2009, Rogers was named a Rising Star in the prestigious Arizona Fall League. As a senior at Mt. Ararat High School in 2004, Rogers led Mt. Ararat to the Class A State Championship Game against Deering High School; a game played in front of a sold out crowd at Hadlock Field.

All proceeds from the dinner and silent auction will benefit the official charity of the Portland Sea Dogs’; the Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program. The Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program was established in 1995 to raise money for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. For every strikeout that a Sea Dogs’ pitcher throws, money is raised through generous pledges of businesses and individuals. In the 16 year history of the program more than four million dollars has been raised. For more information on the Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program log onto www.seadogs.com.
