KALISH AT HADLOCK EARLIER THIS SEASON ON MLB UNI DAY (JEFF SCHOOLS PHOTO)
Congratulations to one of the true good guys Ryan Kalish for his MLB debut in Boston. Ryan's hard work has paid off and I have a feeling Red Sox Nation will soon realize what this kid brings to the table. Here is to a looooong stay in Boston Ryan!
Ryan Kalish, who has been red-hot for the Sea Dogs as of late, is on his way to Pawtucket. Kalish will be taking his .293 avg, 8 homers and 29 RBI's with him, where he will be reunited with former 2010 Sea Dogs Felix Doubront and Lars Anderson. Ryan Khoury will be taking his spot on the roster.
Here's the press release from earlier this afternoon, courtesy of the Sea Dogs.
The Boston Red Sox have promoted Portland Sea Dogs’ outfielder Ryan Kalish to Triple-A Pawtucket. Infielder Ryan Khoury will join the Sea Dogs from Triple-A Pawtucket. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Jeremy Kehrt has been added to the Sea Dogs roster from Single-A Salem. Kehrt will start tonight for the Sea Dogs at 7:05 PM against the Trenton Thunder at Waterfront Park in Trenton, New Jersey. The Sea Dogs roster is now at the 24 man maximum.
The 22 year old, Kalish, was hitting .293 in 41 games for the Sea Dogs and was leading Portland in runs scored (35), home runs (8), and stolen bases (13). He was also fourth in the Eastern League in both walks (28) and on-base percentage (.404) as well as fifth in the league in stolen bases. On May 29th, Kalish became the ninth player in team history to collect five hits in a game. Kalish is rated as the #5 prospect in the Red Sox system according to Baseball America. He combined to hit .279 with 18 home runs & 77 RBI between Single-A Salem and the Sea Dogs last season to earn Red Sox Minor League Offensive Player of the Year honors. The New Jersey native was selected by the Red Sox in the ninth round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.
Ryne Miller has struggled this season for the Sea Dogs, but came up with a gem in Binghamton, going 6 strong innings allowing only 1 hit. Here is the wrap up from Mike Antonellis.
On a cold night in Binghamton, New York, the Portland Sea Dogs were able to win a hard-fought 2-0 ballgame.
Ryne Miller (1-1) had the longest start of any Sea Dogs starter of the 2010 season and picked up a victory. Miller pitched a gem, going six scoreless, giving up only one hit. Ryne had two trouble spots in the game, but pitched out of them well. After a leadoff walk and steal of second by Kirk Nieuwenhuis in the first inning, Miller got Lucas Duda to pop out and Zach Lutz to fly out to Ryan Kalish.
Miller also ran in to some trouble in the bottom of the 6th, but with great defensive plays by Ray Chang, and an inning ending 4-6-3 double play, the Sea Dogs preserved a 2-0 lead after 6 innings.
Mets starter Mike Antonini (2-2) had a quality start, pitching seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs, but did not have any offensive production to help him out. Derrick Ellison and Joshn Stinson both pitched scoreless innings in relief after Antonini’s evening was over.
The Sea Dogs got on the board in the top of the 5th inning. Lars Anderson singled to start the inning. After Mike Antonini was able to get Che-Hsuan Lin to fly out and Jose Iglesias to pop out to second, the inning took a turn. Anderson stole his first base of the season, and then Chih-Hisen Chiang drove in Lars on a line drive hit to left fielder D.J. Wabick. Wabick’s throw was on-line, but was dropped by catcher Luke Montz.
With two outs in the 6th inning, Ryan Kalish took a 2-2 Antonini offering and drove it out over the right field wall of NYSGE stadium, giving Portland a 2-0 lead.
Jason Rice came on after Miller, and found trouble quickly. After allowing the first two batters of the inning to reach base (hitting Zach Lutz and a single by D.J. Wabick), Rice settled in. He got Luke Montz to fowl out to the catcher. After Carlos Guzman struck out on a full count, Rice struck out Brahiam Maldonado to get out of the jam. Rice came out again in the 8th inning and pitched a clean frame.
Bryce Cox entered the game after Rice, and was able to pick up his second save of the season. The Sea Dogs are now 8-4 on the road.
The Sea Dogs and B-Mets finish their rain-shortened two game series tomorrow, as Kyle Weiland takes on Eddie Kunz. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
