SERIES GAME 1 SEA DOGS VS READING PHILLIES #redsox #rphils #phillies

Stay right here for updates all night for Game 1 of a 4 game series between the Reading Phillies and Portland Sea Dogs. Kyle Weiland will be starting for the Sea Dogs and Yohan Flande will be starting for the Phillies.

Roster move prior to tonights game
RHP Kyle Weiland activated from the disabled list.
RHP TJ Large transferred to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Kyle Weiland pitched very strong only allowing 1 hit in 4 innings. Reading Phillies starter Yohan Flande matched him pitch for pitch only allowing 1 run and scattering 8 hits over 6 innings. Flande is still in the game for the Phillies.

Eammon Portice relieved Weiland and promptly gave up 3 runs to to put the Phils up 3 - 1.

Phils top prospect Dominic Brown knocked home a run with a sac fly in the top of the 7th, but Nate Spears countered with a 2 run blast to right to bring the Sea Dogs within 1 run.

Spears got on base in the 9th putting runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs. Ryan Kalish came to the plate, but grounded softly to 1st base, ending the game.

Top prospect Casey Kelly pitches tomorrow for the Portland Sea Dogs.

PORTLAND SEA DOGS GAME RECAP

The Reading Phillies (9-15) snapped a six game slide be defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (13-10) 4-3 in game one of a four game series Monday night at Hadlock Field in front of 3,191 fans.
A sacrifice fly by Dominic Brown scoring Ozzie Chavez in the 7th inning gave Reading a 4-1 lead and proved to the deciding run in the Eastern League contest.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Nate Spears clubbed a two run homer into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion on his 25th birthday to bring the Sea Dogs within a run. The Sea Dogs would threaten in the 9th, with runners reaching first and third base with two outs. However, a Ryan Kalish ground out preserved the game for the Phillies.

The Phillies scored three times in the sixth inning with RBI singles from Brian Stavinsky and Kevin Mahar. Brandon Pinckney capped the inning off with an RBI double.

Yohan Flande (1-2) picked up his first win of the year tossing 6.1 innings yielding three runs on ten hits while striking out four. Sergio Escalona worked the final inning and a third and earned his fourth save of the season.

Eammon Portice (2-1) took the loss for the Sea Dogs tossing three innings giving up four runs on seven hits.

Sea Dogs starter Kyle Weiland did not allow a run in four strong innings of work, allowing just one hit and a pair of walks.

Nate Spears and Ray Chang both collected three hits on the evening to pace the Sea Dogs offense. Jason Place chipped-in with two doubles.

Ryan Kalish earned his team leading 20th walk in the seventh inning. He has now reached base safely in 14 straight games.

The Portland Sea Dogs and Reading Phillies meet again Tuesday night at Hadlock Field at 6:00 PM. Red Sox top pitching prospect Casey Kelly (0-1, 3.38) takes the mound for the Sea Dogs.
