ANTHONY RIZZO SAVES SEA DOGS FROM A NO HITTER
Anthony Rizzo has struggled from the plate of late, but stopped the Portland Sea Dogs from becoming Harrisburg's second no hit victim in 18 days.

Rizzo came the plate with 1 out in the 9th with the Senators Zech Zinicola on the mound. Rizzo lined a pitch down the right field line for a double to break Harrisburg's spell on Sea Dogs bats. The Dogs still lost 3 - 0, but had 5 solid innings from starter Jeremy Kehrt.

Kehrt allowed 5 hits over 5 innings allowing only a single run. The Dogs meet the Senators Tuesday night right back at Hadlock Field.

THE DOGS RALLY AGAIN FOR 9-5 WIN AGAINST THE CATS #portlandseadogs #redsox #milb #sblog

OFFICIAL PORTLAND SEA DOGS GAME WRAP
For the second consecutive day, the Portland Sea Dogs used a big inning to defeat the New Britain Rock Cats. The Sea Dogs pushed six runs across in the top of the eighth, erasing a 5-3 deficit for a 9-5 win, as they took two of three games at New Britain Stadium.

Both teams went down scoreless in the first, before the Sea Dogs started the scoring in the top of the second. With two outs, Will Vazquez was hit by a pitch, and Matt Sheely reached on an infield single. Che-Hsuan Lin then singled to right field, driving in Vazquez. Chris Parmalee made an error on the play, bringing in Sheely with Portland's second run.

The lead didn't last long, as the Rock Cats tied things up in their half of the second. With one out, Jair Fernandez put the home team on the board, drilling his first Double-A home run to center field. Chris Parmalee followed with a double, and advanced to third on Juan Portes' groundout. Parmalee came around to score, when Danny Lehman doubled to deep center.

In the fourth inning, Portland retook the lead, as Chih-Hsien Chiang homered down the right field line for his fifth of the season. Once again, New Britain had an answer, knotting the score in the bottom of the fifth. Danny Lehmann reached on a two-base error, and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Cates. With the infield drawn in, Ben Revere singled, bringing home Lehmann. The Rock Cats picked up one more base runner, but Alex Wilson got the next two hitters to fly out.

Wilson lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs (two earned) and seven hits, while striking out three. David Bromberg had a similar line for New Britain, going five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) and six hits, while striking out three. Neither pitcher issued a walk, and both received no-decisions.

The score remained tied until the seventh, when the Rock Cats took their first lead of the afternoon. Chris Cates and Ben Revere started the frame with back-to-back singles, before a fielder's choice by Steve Singleton. With runners still on first and second, Joe Benson ripped a two-run triple, scoring Revere and Singleton, giving New Britain a 5-3 lead.

Reliever Billy Bullock made his Double-A debut in the top of the eighth for New Britain, and the Sea Dogs greeted him rudely. Anthony Rizzo started the inning with a groundout, but Ryan Khoury singled, Chih-Hsien Chiang doubled, and Will Vazquez walked, loading the bases. Matt Sheely doubled home the tying runs, and two batters later, Nate Spears cracked a two-run double of his own, putting Portland ahead by a pair. The visitors tacked on two more runs in the eighth on an error by catcher Danny Lehmann.

The six-run eighth made a winner out of Ryne Lawson (4-2), who allowed two runs on three hits in two and one-third innings. Billy Bullock (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on four hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning.

The Sea Dogs will return to Hadlock Field for a brief three-game homestand against the Harrisburg Senators. The series begins with a 7:00 start on Monday night, as Portland's Jeremy Kehrt (1-3, 3.45) faces Harrisburg's Aaron Thompson (3-9, 6.10).

Sea Dogs Lose a Lead, Game to Altoona

The Portland Sea Dogs started Thursday afternoon's game with three runs on six consecutive hits, but a five-run seventh inning by the Altoona Curve was the difference, as Altoona completed the three-game sweep with a 7-4 win at Blair County Ballpark.

Altoona starter Jared Hughes came out ready to throw strikes, but the Sea Dogs' bats were up to the task. Portland greeted the league's leader in wins with six consecutive singles to begin the top of the first. Che-Hsuan Lin and Nate Spears started the rally, with Lin scoring on Ray Chang's hit. Luis Exposito followed with an RBI single of his own, before Anthony Rizzo's hit loaded the bases. Yamaico Navarro had the last of the six straight hits, singling through the left side, scoring Chang with the third run of the inning.

The Curve were also quick to get onto the scoreboard, as they got one run back in the bottom half of the first. Chase d'Arnaud walked, then stole second and third. After Gorkys Hernandez grounded out to short, Josh Harrison doubled down the left field line, easily scoring d'Arnaud. Altoona scored again in the third, as Shelby Ford led off the frame with a solo home run.

Two innings later, Portland got one of the runs back. Following a pair of quick outs, Ray Chang took a 3-1 pitch, and deposited it over the left field wall for his fourth home run of the season. Chang spent parts of two seasons with the Curve, hitting two long balls in 46 games.

The bottom of the fifth was Stephen Fife's final inning on the mound, and he finished his outing in style, striking out two of the three batters in the frame. In five innings of work, the Portland starter allowed two runs, four hits, and two walks, while striking out five. Jared Hughes lasted a little bit longer for Altoona, going seven innings, allowing four runs, eight hits, and one walk, while striking out five.

Mitch Herold tossed a scoreless sixth inning out of the bullpen, but ran into trouble in the seventh. Altoona started the inning with five straight baserunners on four hits and one walk. Miles Durham's triple and Shelby Ford's single produced one run each, as the Curve tied the game at four. After a Gorkys Hernandez strikeout, Josh Harrison put the home team on top, doubling to right-center. Matt Hague added an RBI groundout, as a 4-2 deficit suddenly became a 7-4 lead for Altoona.

The Curve's rally put Jared Hughes (10-3) in line for the win, while Mitch Herold (1-2) suffered the loss. Tony Watson struck out the side in the eighth, then finished his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

The Sea Dogs will begin a new series on Friday, as they travel to New Britain to face the Rock Cats. The series opener will begin at 6:35, with Portland's Kyle Weiland (3-4, 3.81) facing New Britain's Deolis Guerra (1-3, 2.88).

RYAN WESTMORELAND PRESS CONFERENCE #redsox #portlandseadogs #lowellspinners #salemredsox #pawsox #mlb

WESTMORELAND
RYAN WESTMORELAND HANGING AT HADLOCK 2 WEEKS AGO
The Boston Red Sox, Red Sox Executive VP and General Manager Theo Epstein, Ryan Westmoreland and Westmoreland's Dad, Ron took part in a conference call to give updates on how Ryan is progressing.

When Ryan Westmoreland was in Portland to hang with his Sea Dogs pals a couple of weeks ago, it was a surprise to the media. The Red Sox, rightfully so, have kept a lid on Westmoreland's travels. The team is 100% committed to making Ryan's life better before his baseball life is ever thought of. For Ryan, baseball is part of his life. It was clear, watching Ryan hang with Casey Kelly, Ryan Kalish, Anthony Rizzo and the rest of the Sea Dogs, just how important his pals and baseball were to him. To a man on the Sea Dogs, they were reminded of how little a 3-20 slump means in the grand scheme of things. One other thing is very clear, his teammates are better people for knowing Ryan Westmoreland and knowing the path he has had to travel. That knowledge should serve all of these players and their careers for a long time to come.

Please listen to this tough kid who has gone through a huge, life changing experience. His determination and dedication for his recovery may surpass his on field goals.

ALEX WILSON'S 2ND AA START MUCH BETTER, DOGS LOSE 2 - 1 TO ALTOONA #portlandseadogs #redsox #sblog

Hadlock Headlines Player of the Week Luis Exposito hit a HR for the Sea Dogs only run of the game.

OFFICIAL PORTLAND SEA DOGS GAME WRAP

Portland's Alex Wilson and Altoona's Rudy Owens were the story for most of the night, as the two starters combined to allow two runs on eight hits. However, Jordy Mercer earned the final recognition, as his RBI single in the eighth inning was the difference in a 2-1 win for the Curve at Blair County Ballpark.

After a rough start in his Double-A debut, Alex Wilson rebounded beautifully in his second game. Wilson's lone blemish came in the bottom of the third inning, when Chase d'Arnaud smacked his first home run of 2010. Gorkys Hernandez followed the homer with a double, but Josh Harrison's flyout ended the frame.

Wilson lasted into the sixth inning for the Sea Dogs, before allowing three consecutive hitters to reach base with two outs. Eammon Portice took over on the mound, and got Alex Presley out to avoid any further damage. Wilson's final line was five and two-thirds innings, one run, five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

Altoona's Rudy Owens also brought some of his best stuff to the hill as well, allowing two hits in the first six innings of the contest. Portland finally got to Owens with two outs in the seventh, as Luis Exposito connected for a solo home run to left field. The Curve starter ended up going seven innings, allowing one run and three hits, while striking out five.

With the game in the hands of the bullpens, the Curve retook the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Josh Harrison and Matt Hague both singled on 0-2 pitches, putting runners on the corners to start the inning. Jordy Mercer then put Altoona on top, knocking a base hit into left field.

Mercer's hit ended Eammon Portice's outing, as Bryce Cox took over for the Sea Dogs. Cox gave up an infield single to Hector Gimenez, but got Alex Presley to hit into a double play, before striking out Miles Durham.

Danny Moskos recorded two strikeouts in a perfect ninth inning, as the Curve opened the series with a 2-1 victory.
Dustin Molleken (3-3) earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning, defeating Eammon Portice (3-5), with Moskos (17) earning the save.

The Sea Dogs and Curve will play the middle game of their three-game series on Wednesday at 7:00. Jeremy Kehrt (1-2, 2.08) will make the start for Portland, while Altoona counters with Bryan Morris (3-2, 4.22).

#SeaDogs Take Down Akron

For the second time on their road trip, the Portland Sea Dogs completed a series with a phenomenal effort from their pitching. On Sunday afternoon, Stephen Fife, Eammon Portice, and Jason Rice combined to blank the Akron Aeros, 3-0 at Canal Park.

Both starting pitchers did well in the early innings, as Stephen Fife held the Aeros hitless through five, while Alex White kept the Sea Dogs off of the scoreboard through four. In the top of the fifth, Portland broke through for the first run of the afternoon. With two outs, Che-Hsuan Lin received a walk, and proceeded to score two pitches later, when Ray Chang doubled over Adam Davis' head in left field.

One inning later, the visitors added to their lead with a second two-out run. Yamaico Navarro singled with one out, and moved to second on Chih-Hsien Chiang's grounder to third. Ryan Khoury followed with a single to right field, bringing Navarro around from second base.

Fife still had his no-hitter going with one out in the sixth, but Miguel Perez broke it up with an infield single up the middle. After Tim Fedroff grounded into a fielder's choice, the Aeros received their second hit of the day, on a single to right by Jason Kipnis. However, Portland's starter pitched out of any further damage, as Lonnie Chisenhall flew out to left, ending the inning.

Stephen Fife (3-1) finished the day with six innings pitched, allowing just two hits, while striking out five. Alex White (2-2) lasted five innings for Akron, allowing one runs, two hits, and four walks, while striking out six.

Luis Exposito and Anthony Rizzo started the top of the eighth inning with consecutive strikeouts, but Akron reliever Shane Lindsay was far from being done. He walked Yamaico Navarro and Ryan Khoury, while Chih-Hsien Chiang reached on an error by Carlos Rivero. With the bases loaded, Juan Apodaca was hit by a pitch, bringing in Portland's third run of the day.

That ended up being plenty of offense for the Sea Dogs and their bullpen. Eammon Portice allowed one hit in two innings for his fourth hold of the season, before Jason Rice closed things out with a scoreless ninth. Rice's save was his eighth of the campaign.

With the win, Portland secured a winning road trip, finishing their swing through Erie and Akron with a 4-2 mark. The Aeros' loss puts an end to their 12-game winning streak - the longest in franchise history.

The Sea Dogs will have Monday off, before beginning a six-game homestand on Tuesday night at 7:00. Tuesday's opponent will be the Erie SeaWolves. Portland has yet to name a starting pitcher for the series opener, while Erie will turn to Duane Below (2-5, 4.15).

CASEY KELLY PITCHES STRONG IN DOGS 4-3 LOSS TO AKRON

OFFICIAL PORTLAND SEA DOGS GAME RECAP

The Portland Sea Dogs got off to a great start on Saturday night, as each of their first three batters came around to score. However, the finish wasn't as positive, as the Akron Aeros scored in four consecutive innings, erasing their deficit, while picking up a 4-3 win in the series opener at Canal Park.

Akron starter Kelvin de la Cruz ran into trouble right away, giving up free passes to three of the first four batters he faced in the top of the first. The other batter in that stretch was Che-Hsuan Lin, who reached base on an error. Luis Exposito picked up the first RBI of the ball game, walking on five pitches with the bases loaded. The Sea Dogs added two more runs in the inning, as Lin scored on Yamaico Navarro's sacrifice fly, while Chih-Hsien Chiang singled home Ray Chang.

The score stayed 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth, when the Aeros finally solved Casey Kelly for a run. Jerad Head led off the frame with a double, and moved to third on a groundout by Adam Davis. Damaso Espino followed with a groundout of his own, but produced a run, as Head came in with Akron's first run.

The Sea Dogs nearly got that run back in the sixth. Anthony Rizzo sent a deep drive to right-center field that appeared to be a home run. However, the ruling on the field was a double. Will Vazquez pinch ran for Rizzo, and was stranded on base after three consecutive groundouts.

There was one ball that left the park in the sixth, as Lonnie Chisenhall greeted reliever Tommy Hottovy with a solo shot to right field, trimming Portland's lead to 3-2.

One inning later, Akron drew even. Adam Davis and Damaso Espino started the rally with back-to-back singles, putting a pair of runners on base for Tim Fedroff. Fedroff cashed in one of the runs with a double to deep right field. After allowing the double, Hottovy was able to battle out of the jam, keeping the game knotted at three.

The tie game gave both starting pitchers no-decisions. Casey Kelly tossed five innings for the Sea Dogs, allowing one run, five hits, and one walk, while striking out five. After a rough first inning, Kelvin de la Cruz settled down for the Aeros, going five innings, allowing three unearned runs, three hits, and five walks, while striking out one.

Unfortunately for Hottovy and the Sea Dogs, Akron's comeback continued, as the home team took the lead in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Jerad Head reached on an infield single, and advanced to second on a walk to Adam Davis. Damaso Espino broke the deadlock with a single to right field, driving home Head with the go-ahead run.

Bryce Stowell preserved the win with a scoreless ninth, as the Aeros picked up their 11th straight win.

Carlton Smith (1-1) was the winning pitcher, as he twirled a scoreless eight. Tommy Hottovy (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs in three and one-third innings. Bryce Stowell picked up his fourth save of the season.

The Sea Dogs and Aeros will play the middle game of their three-game set on Saturday at 7:05. Ryne Miller (2-3, 4.96) gets the nod for Portland, while Akron turns to former Red Sox prospect, Nick Hagadone (1-0, 3.00).

#SeaDogs Win a Pitching Duel

The Portland Sea Dogs scored one run in the top of the first inning, and as it turned out, that proved to be enough. Jeremy Kehrt, Eammon Portice, and Jason Rice combined to blank the Erie SeaWolves, as Portland completed a three-game sweep with a 1-0 win at Jerry Uht Park.

Nate Spears led off the game for the Sea Dogs, and appeared to be on his way to popping out. However, an error by Erie catcher Andy Bouchie kept the at-bat alive, with Spears ultimately drawing a walk. After a single by Che-Hsuan Lin and a flyout by Ray Chang, Luis Exposito knocked in Spears with a base hit up the middle. The RBI was Exposito's 45th of the season - the most on the team.

Exposito's Hit By Pitch Gives Sea Dogs a Win

After failing to score on three hits in the top of the second, the Sea Dogs made sure to get on the board in the third. COELLO Ks 11 IN 1-0 LOSS TO TRENTON

OFFICIAL PORTLAND SEA DOGS WRAP UP
Robert Coello put together one of the best pitching performances of his career, allowing three hits and striking out eleven in five and two-thirds innings. Unfortunately, the Portland Sea Dogs were unable to get him the win, as Daniel Brewer's fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth was the difference. The Trenton Thunder won for the second night in a row, blanking Portland 1-0 at Waterfront Park.

Both starting pitchers were absolutely magnificent. Robert Coello got the nod for the Sea Dogs, and went five and two-thirds innings, allowing just three hits, while striking out eleven. The eleven strikeouts are a career high for Coello, and the most by a Portland pitcher since Felix Doubront's ten on July 22, 2009 at New Britain. On the other side, David Phelps tossed seven innings for the Thunder, allowing four hits and one walk, while tying his season high with seven strikeouts.

Portland's Mitch Herold and Trenton's Eric Wordekemper kept the pitcher's duel going, as the game remained scoreless into the ninth. Wordekemper kept the Sea Dogs off of the scoreboard in the top half of the ninth, but Bryce Cox wasn't as fortunate in the bottom half. Brandon Laird and Jorge Vazquez both picked up one-out singles, and Daniel Brewer drove in the game's only run with a fielder's choice to short. The play scored Edwar Gonzalez, who ran for Laird at third base.

Wordekemper (3-0) recorded the win, while Cox (0-4) took the loss.

The Sea Dogs and Thunder will conclude their three-game series on Thursday night at 7:05. Ryne Miller (2-3, 4.53) will make the start for Portland, going up against Trenton's Cory Arbiso (0-1, 3.60).

SEA DOGS DROP SERIES OPENER AGAINST THUNDER 6 - 2

OFFICIAL PORTLAND SEA DOGS GAME WRAP
Jeremy Kehrt allowed just one run on two hits in five innings, but the Portland Sea Dogs were unable to hang on for a win. The Trenton Thunder scored five runs off of reliever Eammon Portice, including three driven in by Austin Krum. Trenton opened this three-game series with a 6-2 win at Waterfront Park.

The Thunder wasted little time in scoring off of Jeremy Kehrt, who was making his second career start in Double-A. Justin Christian led off the game with a walk, and quickly stole second base on the next pitch. Austin Krum moved his teammate over to third base with a groundout, before Austin Romine's RBI single to left, which put the home team on top.

RHP KEHRT PROMOTED BACK TO AA PORTLAND

RHP Jeremy Kehrt was promoted to Double-A Portland and RHP Miguel Gonzalez was added to Salem's roster from extended spring training.
