OFFICIAL PORTLAND SEA DOGS GAME WRAP
The Erie SeaWolves snapped an eight game slide by defeating the Portland Sea Dogs 9-3 Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs suffer their first loss of the season to Erie and drop to 34-30 on the season.
Erie collected 15 hits and blasted three home runs as they cruised to a 9-3 victory.
The SeaWolves wasted no time spoiling the Double-A debut of Portland starter Alex Wilson scoring three runs in the top of the first inning highlighted by a two run homer by Cale Iorg.
Andy Dirks (3-for-6, 2 R, 3 RBI) added a two run homer in the second inning, his eighth of the year, to give Erie a 5-0 lead. Deik Scram had an RBI triple and Andy Ciciaco added a RBI single in the third to end the night for Wilson.
Wilson (0-1) allowed seven runs on eight hits in three innings of work, walking two and striking out four. Ryne Lawson and Santo Luis each tossed three innings of relief for Portland. The only blemish was a single run off Lawson in the sixth.
Jason Rice pitched the ninth and surrendered a solo shot to Josh Burrus (7).
Thad Weber (4-7) fired six shutout innings allowing six hits, walking one and striking out five to earn his fourth win of the season.
Portland avoided the shutout scoring three times in the ninth inning. A two run blast from Yamaico Navarro, his fourth and an RBI triple from Matt Sheely. Sheely has now hit safely in seven of his last eight games.
Ray Chang and Sheely were the only Sea Dogs players with multi hit games, each collecting two hits. Chang raised his team best batting average to .320.
The Portland Sea Dogs and Erie SeaWolves will play the rubber game of the series Thursday evening at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field. Jeremy Kehrt (1-1, 1.71) will start for the Sea Dogs. He will be opposed Brooks Brown (3-4, 4.43). Fireworks are scheduled for after the game.
