The Sea Dogs end a five-game losing streak in style, erasing a 5-1 deficit in the seventh inning, scoring six times, en route to a 8-5 win over the New Britain Rock Cats on Saturday night at New Britain Stadium. Portland looks for the series victory in the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon.

Bryce Cox entered the game in the eighth inning and recorded the final five outs to notch his ninth save of the season.

Lin and Spears each had three hits for the Sea Dogs, who received a hit from eight of nine starters, but the entire lineup reach base safely. Anthony Rizzo knocked in two runs with a double and a sacrifice fly, and has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 starts.

For the second straight night, the Rock Cats scored first, plating three off Casey Kelly (ND, 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 6 SO) in the second inning. Joe Benson tripled with one out and scored on a wild pitch. Yancarlos Ortiz knocked in his fifth run of the season with a two-out single to right field.

Portland grabbed a run in the third inning when Spears singled home Lin, who led off the inning with a double.

New Britain answered with a run in the fourth inning on a lead-off homer by Singleton, and Benson produced a run-scoring fielder’s choice in the fifth inning. The Sea Dogs committed two errors in the fifth, which made the run unearned. Rock Cats' starter Deolis Guerra took a no-decision, surrendering eight hits and five runs over 6.2 innings pitched.
