The Boston Red Sox have announced that Manny Delcarmen is scheduled to begin a major league rehabilitation assignment with the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday, July 15th. The Sea Dogs will be in New Britain, Connecticut to face the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins) at 7:05 PM at New Britain Stadium.
Manny Delcarmen has been sidelined since July 1st with a right forearm strain. Delcarmen, 28, has gone 2-2 with a 4.59 ERA (17 ER/33.1 IP) in 33 relief appearances with the Red Sox this season. He's held opponents to a .220 average (27-for-123) while recording 23 strikeouts and 20 walks.
Delcarmen appeared in 31 games for the Sea Dogs in 2005 posting a 4-4 record with three saves and a 3.23 ERA. Delcarmen would make his Major League debut for the Red Sox on July 26, 2005 at Tampa Bay. The Boston, Massachusetts native was selected in the second round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft.
The Sea Dogs return to action after the Eastern League All-Star break on Thursday, July 15th with a seven game road trip with stops in New Britain, Connecticut and Manchester, New Hampshire. The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field for a brief four game series with the Harrisburg Senators (Nationals) July 22nd through July 25th.
