WEILAND CONTINUES ROLL IN SEA DOGS 11 - 2 WIN #portlandseadogs #redsox #fishercats #bluejays

SEADOGS-VS
OFFICIAL PORTLAND SEA DOGS GAME RECAP
It took a while to get things started on Monday night, but for the Portland Sea Dogs, the wait was well worth it. Portland scored eleven runs, including a seven-run outburst in the fifth. After the clock struck midnight, the Sea Dogs were able to celebrate their 11-2 win in the series opener.

Thanks to mother nature, the two teams had to wait through a rain delay, ultimately starting at 9:09. At that time, the Sea Dogs were more than ready to get started, as the first three batters all reached base. Two singles and a walk were followed by back-to-back strikeouts, but with two down, Ryan Lavarnway was hit by a pitch, bringing home Che-Hsuan Lin with the game's first run.

In the fourth inning, the Fisher Cats knotted the score at one. With one out, Eric Thames was hit by a pitch. After a pop-up by David Cooper, Adam Loewen smacked a double to center field, driving in Thames.

Portland responded quickly in the fifth, and did so in a big way. After a walk and a strikeout, the visitors had seven consecutive players reach base. Ray Chang, Luis Exposito, and Anthony Rizzo all walked, Ryan Lavarnway was hit by a pitch for the second time, and Jorge Padron, Ryan Khoury, and Chih-Hsien Chiang all had run producing hits. New Hampshire used three pitchers in that half of the inning, as the Sea Dogs scored seven runs on three hits, four walks, and one hit batsman.

The first pitcher in that stretch was the starter, Randy Boone. The righty ended up pitching four and one-third innings, allowing four runs, three hits, and five walks, while striking out eight. Boone (2-5) suffered the loss.

Meanwhile, Kyle Weiland did what he had to for the Sea Dogs. The Portland starter went five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run, five hits, and one walk, while striking out seven. Weiland (5-5) won for the fourth time in his last five decisions.

Portland added three runs in seventh, cruising to an 11-2 win.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats will play the middle game of their three-game series on Tuesday night at 7:05. Jeremy Kehrt (1-7, 5.29) will make the start for Portland, while New Hampshire will counter with Rey Gonzalez (1-1, 5.40).
