SEA DOGS SCORE 6 IN 1ST AND NEVER LOOK BACK IN A 11-3 WIN OVER ROCK CATS #redsox #portlandseadogs #sblog

OFFICIAL PORTLAND SEA DOGS GAME STORY

The Portland Sea Dogs got off to a tremendous start on Saturday night, scoring six runs on seven hits in the first inning for a 6-0 lead over the Rock Cats. That offensive support was helpful for Alex Wilson, who earned his second win of the season, allowing two runs on six hits in six and one-third innings. With that, the Sea Dogs picked up their first win after the all-star break, smoking New Britain, 11-3.

After two straight tough losses, the Sea Dogs wanted to make sure they got off to a good start. Che-Hsuan Lin and Jeremy Hermida helped that cause with back-to-back hits, putting Portland ahead 1-0. Two batters later, Anthony Rizzo contributed an RBI double, driving in Hermida. As the inning continued, so did the Sea Dogs' bats, as Ryan Lavarnway, Jorge Padron, and Chih-Hsien Chiang all had run producing hits. When all was said and done in the top of the first, the visitors sent eleven men to the plate, scoring six times on seven hits.

In the bottom of the second, the Rock Cats got on the board, as Joe Benson hit a solo home run to center field. The New Britain outfielder has now hit four home runs in the last seven games against Portland.

Benson's home run brought the home team to within five, but the Sea Dogs quickly got that run back in the third. With two outs, Chih-Hsien Chiang doubled, and was driven in by Che-Hsuan Lin.

Portland added two more runs in the sixth on a bases loaded walk by Jeremy Hermida, as well as an RBI fielder's choice by Ray Chang. In three rehab games with the Sea Dogs, Hermida was 3-for-11 with a walk, two doubles, and three RBI.

Nate Spears' sacrifice fly and Ryan Lavarnway's RBI double concluded the scoring for the visitors, who won 11-3.

The run support ended up being plenty for Alex Wilson, who had a strong start for Portland. Wilson (2-2) earned the win, tossing six and one-third innings, allowing two runs, six hits, and two walks, while striking out three. Deolis Guerra (2-5) suffered the loss for New Britain, going three innings, allowing seven runs, nine hits, and two walks.

The Sea Dogs and Rock Cats will conclude their four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35. Portland will send Stephen Fife (5-2, 3.83) to the hill, while New Britain counters with Kyle Gibson (5-4, 4.15).
