Anthony Rizzo continues blasting the ball in #PortlandSeaDogs 9 - 2 win over Bowie #redsox

OFFICIAL PORTLAND SEA DOGS GAME WRAP
To say that Anthony Rizzo is hitting well right now would be an understatement. On Thursday night, Rizzo went deep for the second straight game, giving him 16 home runs and 62 RBI in 84 games with the Sea Dogs. The rest of the offense also performed well, as Portland scored nine runs on 15 hits in a 9-2 win over the Bowie Baysox.

The Sea Dogs were sent down in order in the first inning by rehabbing pitcher Jim Johnson. However, once he was out of the game, the visitors went right to work against the originally scheduled starter, Rick Zagone. Luis Exposito started the second inning by reaching on catcher's interference. Ryan Lavarnway then got the first hit of the game for Portland, doubling to left field. After an RBI groundout by Jorge Padron, the Sea Dogs strung three hits together from Ryan Khoury, Chih-Hsien Chiang, and Matt Sheely. Che-Hsuan Lin knocked in another run with a groundout, before Nate Spears picked up an RBI infield single for a 5-0 Portland lead.

The visitors added another run off of Zagone in the fifth. Nate Spears and Anthony Rizzo started the rally with back-to-back singles. After a double play and an intentional walk, Jorge Padron picked up his second RBI of the night, ripping a single up the middle.

Zagone (3-4) ended up going three and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen, allowing six runs (three earned), ten hits, and one walk.

Bowie broke up Blake Maxwell's shutout bid in the bottom of the fifth.Tyler Henson reached base on a throwing error by Ryan Khoury, moved to second on a single by Steve Lerud, and eventually to third on Greg Miclat's fielder's choice. With runners on the corners and one out, Carlos Rojas singled home Henson.

The unearned run was the only blemish on Maxwell's (4-0) line, as he allowed three hits and one walk, while striking out three in five innings of work. After starting last season with an 0-5 record, the Portland starter has now won 11 of his last 14 decisions in Double-A. Maxwell also reached 500 career innings in the victory.

In the sixth inning, the Sea Dogs answered that run, while tacking on two more. Chih-Hsien Chiang led off with a single, and eventually scored on Ray Chang's single to left. After Nate Spears struck out, Anthony Rizzo stepped up and drilled a two-run homer to center field. The Portland first baseman now has 20 RBI in just ten games this month.

The Baysox scored the lone run of the late innings, as Portland cruised to the 9-2 win.

The Sea Dogs will now travel to Richmond for their first ever series at The Diamond. Portland will have Stephen Fife (6-4, 5.01) on the mound, while the Flying Squirrels will counter with Clayton Tanner (7-8, 3.42). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
