Anthony Rizzo seems to be hitting stride despite #PortlandSeaDogs 6-3 loss to Bowie #redsox

OFFICIAL PORTLAND SEA DOGS GAME WRAP
The Bowie Baysox rebounded from Tuesday night’s pounding to defeat the Portland Sea Dogs 6-3 Wednesday night at Hadlock Field before 6,541 fans.    The Baysox used hot hitting on a humid Hadlock night and solid pitching to improve to 60-50 on the season.  The Sea Dogs fall to 53-57.

The Baysox offense rocked Sea Dogs’ starter Kyle Weiland scoring five runs (four earned) on ten hits in 4.2 innings.

Carlos Rojas got the scoring started for the Baysox with a two run double in the second inning to give Bowie a 2-0 lead.

The Baysox offense would strike again in the fifth scoring three runs, highlighted by a two run blast by Joel Guzman.  Weiland would not be able to get out of the inning and suffered the loss (5-7).

Daniel Turpen, recently acquired from the Giants in the Ramon Ramirez deal, made his Red Sox organization debut in relief of Weiland.  Turpen pitched well yielding one run on two hits in 2.1 innings of work, walking a batter and striking out two.  His lone blemish was a RBI double off the bat of Brandon Waring in the seventh scoring Guzman giving Bowie a 6-1 lead.

Anthony Rizzo accounted for all three Portland runs with a 3-for-4 performance with two home runs.  Rizzo hit a solo shot in the second to cut the Baysox lead in half at 2-1. Then, after a Luis Exposito walk in the eighth, Rizzo blasted his second home run of the night and his team leading 13th of the season to make it a 6-3 ballgame.  Rizzo is 7-for-9 in the series with four doubles, two home runs and seven RBI.

Rizzo and Che-Hsuan Lin were the only Sea Dogs batters to collect multi hit games.

Bowie starter Steve Johnson (7-6) held the Sea Dogs to one run in five innings on the mound to earn the win.  Pedro Beato worked a scoreless ninth to earn his 12th save of the season.

Ryne Reynoso made his Sea Dogs debut working a scoreless eighth inning allowing one hit and two walks.

The Sea Dogs and Baysox will play the rubber match of the series Thursday in a matinee affair starting at 12:00 noon at Hadlock Field.  Right-handed pitcher Jeremy Kehrt (2-8, 5.10) takes the mound for Portland.  Bowie has not yet announced a starter.

Notes:  The Sea Dogs were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position…Luis Exposito was hitless ending his six game hit streak.
