#PortlandSeaDogs drop tough on to Squirrels 3 - 2 #redsox #sblog #milb

OFFICIAL SEA DOGS GAME WRAP
Last Friday, the Portland Sea Dogs had their way with Clayton Tanner, lighting him up for eight runs in three innings. This Friday, it was Tanner who got the upper hand. The Richmond starter allowed one unearned run in six and two-thirds innings, as the Flying Squirrels opened the three-game series with a 3-2 win at The Diamond.

After a scoreless first inning, the Flying Squirrels got on the board in the bottom of the second. With two outs,
Tyler LaTorre walked, and advanced to second on an infield single by Clay Timpner. On the very next pitch, Brad Boyer laced a double down the right field line, scoring LaTorre with the first run of the series.

In the fifth inning, the Sea Dogs scored their first run, despite an odd chain of events. Chih-Hsien Chiang walked, and was then bunted to second base by Luis Segovia. After Che-Hsuan Lin singled, Chiang scored on a passed ball. Nate Spears followed with a walk, and was nearly thrown out trying to steal second. However, all four Richmond infielders and the catcher ended up touching the baseball, as Lin was tagged out at home plate.

Richmond regained the lead in the bottom half of the fifth. Clay Timpner and Brad Boyer started the frame with back-to-back hard hits, but it was a bunt by Darren Ford that created the most damage. Stephen Fife's throw to second base went into center field, scoring Timpner, and moving Boyer to third. Boyer scored on the next pitch, as Nick Noonan flew out to center.

Ryne Lawson came in to pitch three scoreless innings out of the Sea Dogs' bullpen, and Che-Hsuan Lin delivered an RBI single in the ninth, but Richmond held on for the 3-2 victory.

Clayton Tanner (8-8) earned the win for Richmond, going six and two-thirds innings, allowing one unearned run, five hits, and six walks, while striking out five. Stephen Fife (6-5) suffered the loss for Portland, pitching five innings, allowing three runs (two earned), six hits, and one walk, while striking out one. David Quinowski picked up his first save in Double-A,

The Sea Dogs and Flying Squirrels will play the middle game of their three-game series on Saturday night at 6:05. Kyle Weiland (5-7, 4.40) will get the call for Portland, while Richmond will turn to David Mixon (10-6, 3.63).
