KELLY THREW SEASON HIGH 93 PITCHES |
Casey Kelly took the mound Friday night as the Richmond Flying Squirrels invaded Hadlock for the 1st time in their history. The Flying Squirrels are the AA Farm team of the San Francisco Giants. The Squirrels took advantage of their 1st visit, beating the Dogs 7 - 4.
Kelly used his full repertoire of pitches, hitting 93 on the gun with his fastball. As with most of his starts this year, Kelly had very good stuff, with little to show on the results side. He went 6 2/3 innings throwing 93 pitches (AA high pitch count), allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out and walking 1.
The Squirrels got on the board in the 3rd when Kelly walked the leadoff batter Tyler LaTorre. Clay Timpner promptly doubled to deep center, scoring LaTorre.
Richmond got to Casey again in the 5th, as LaTorry started it all again, this time with a double to right, after Ryan Lormand reached on a Ryan Khoury error. Timpner then singled home Lormand for Richmond's second run. Singles by Brad Boyer and Nick Noonan scored the final runs off Kelly putting the Squirrels up 4 - 3.
The Sea Dogs offense got going early as Che-Hsuan Lin walked to open the game. Nate Spears moved Lin along to 2nd on a very close play from the hole at 1st. Ray Chang doubled to deep center, driving in Lin for the first run of the game for the Dogs.
The Dogs got going again in the 3rd as Che-Hsuan Lin singled on a high chopper to the pitcher. Lin advanced to 2nd on a wild throw to 1st. Nate Spears, still steaming from the close play at 1st, promptly doubled to the gap in left center, scoring Lin on the play. After Ray Chang and Luis Exposito struck out swinging, Dogs 1st Baseman Anthony Rizzo singled sharply to center, scoring Spears for the Sea Dogs 3 - 1 lead.
Mitch Herold replaced Kelly in the 7th and got out of the inning clean. Harold was not so lucky in the 8th, as Richmond scored 3 times. A mishmash of errors including wild pitches and passed balls did the Sea Dogs in for the night.
Blake Maxwell goes for the Sea Dogs Saturday Night at 6PM as there will be fireworks after the game.
